Sienna Startup Nation Fund: Pioneering sustainable tech investments in Israel

Isabelle Amiel Azoulai joined Sienna Investment Managers (Sienna IM) in mid-2022 to found Sienna Venture Capital. Over the past ten years, Isabelle Amiel Azoulai and her team have been involved in 46 deals in Israel, out of more than 70 carried out worldwide in the Israeli start-up sector.
Sienna Venture Capital is the tech investment branch of Sienna Investment Managers which is part of the GBL Group. Its team is the largest European investor in Israeli tech and is launching a fund dedicated to this market: Sienna Startup Nation.
Sienna Venture Capital’s mission is to implement a "Tech for purpose" approach, and as a committed investor, to have a positive impact on environmental or societal issues, by supporting companies that will provide solutions to these issues.
With over 40 years of experience acquired in the tech ecosystem, Sienna Venture Capital identify trends and challenges among start-ups in the digital health, climate, mobility, cybersecurity, agritech, foodtech and artificial intelligence sectors, among others. Sienna Venture Capital is an operator-investor in the Israeli start-ups ecosystem, its adding value role will be to bring their innovations to the French and European markets.
Sienna Venture Capital is looking for a new generation of entrepreneurs who are driven by the desire to leave a mark, to be committed to social issues and to do good, which is in line with its identity as an investor. In addition to this ability to provide solutions to societal issues, with a strategic vision that must be sustainable, the companies they want to support must be scale-ups (with sales of between €3 million and €10 million), have clearly demonstrated an ability to be profitable and generate hyper-growth (doubling their sales every year over the 2-3 years following the investment).
Sienna Venture Capital launched early this year its new fund, Sienna Startup Nation. The fundraising, with European investors, family entrepreneurs, corporates and financial institutions, has a target of around 200 to 250 million dollars, including 100 million in seed money from GBL. Sienna Venture Capital will be investing in a dozen companies and have already made five equity investments, in a foodtech (Incredo), specialized in reduced sugar, an insurtech (Hourly), that simplifies workers’ comp insurance, an agritech (SupPlant), specialized in smart irrigation for farmers, a mobility tech (Nexar) a leading AI computer vision company and a digital healthtech (Ibex), an AI-powered diagnostic solutions to help pathologists. They are in advance due diligence with a company in the space of silicon photonics solutions.
