Profile

For over 20 years, Bart built a track record as a fund manager and finance expert in development finance. Bart has in-depth experience in working with Impact Investors and Development Finance Institutions (DFI), having closed fund raising rounds with various DFIs and donors, and with NGOs and government entities. Furthermore, Bart has a creative mind when it comes to structuring and closing innovative finance solutions, including fintech product development, across different countries and cultures. He moreover has set up the financial organizations and risk management practices of several investment funds and companies.

Since early 2020, Bart leads an impact investment advisory and management venture, Total Impact Capital (TIC) Europe. In this position, he is currently advising several companies and impact investment organizations, including Philips and Global Innovation Fund, amongst other, on the design, structuring and fundraising of high impact deals. Bart is now setting-up a Health and Nutrition fund for Sub-Saharan Africa supported with a guarantee from the European Commission and a partnership with UNICEF.

From 2012 to 2019, Bart set up, fundraised for and closed two investor rounds for the Medical Credit Fund, an impact investment fund that provides capital to SMEs in healthcare in sub Saharan Africa. As the CFO of the African focused Medical Credit Fund, Bart set up and managed teams in four sub Saharan African countries. He was furthermore responsible for the launch of various groundbreaking finance products for the healthcare sector, such as a digital - easy access - loan product on M-Pesa revenues in Kenya. Bart Schaap started his career as a credit risk specialist at Standard and Poor’s in London, assigning ratings to large infrastructure companies and Public-Private Partnership projects. Furthermore, Bart headed a team that implemented an advanced credit rating framework for corporates at Dutch bank NIBC.

Bart is educated as a Macroeconomist (Monetary Theory) at the University of Groningen.
