Gavin has driven editorial content and thought leadership at many of the developing world’s most critical institutions including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the World Bank’s IFC, the Institute of International Finance, Amundi, and the Africa Finance Corporation. He advises several heads of state, central bank governors, stock exchanges and financial centres on strategic stakeholder engagement.
A prominent finance writer and commentator, Gavin’s debut book, Frontier: Exploring the Top Ten Emerging Markets of Tomorrow (Bloomberg/Wiley), was acclaimed as a “must read” by The Financial Times. His latest, Chain Reaction - How Blockchain Will Transform the Developing World (Macmillan), was described as “the perfect way to step beyond the clichés about blockchain and explore the full range of possibilities in a rich and compelling way” by the BBC’s Tim Harford.
Bloomberg’s Global Editor-at-Large for emerging markets until 2015, Gavin’s work leading teams of journalists to uncover the derivatives that triggered the 2008 financial crisis won him the Society of American Business Editors & Writers’ Best in Business Award and the Society of Professional Journalists’ Deadline Club Award.
Gavin is a frequent speaker on development economics, finance and technology, including as a guest lecturer at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, London Business School and Syracuse University.
