Gerard has over 30 years of investment experience, including 17 years of direct impact investing in Africa, both equity and debt, and 10 years of healthcare exposure. From 2009-2015 he worked for the Investment Fund for Health in Africa (“IFHA”, investors including IFC, AFDB and FMO). Since 2015 he works for FOUNT, an impact firm based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, providing advisory and impact fund management services. FOUNT manages four impact funds with assets under management of over €185m, including Organic Development Finance, BIX Capital, the Good Fashion Fund and Agri3. All funds managed by FOUNT are blended finance vehicles with a focus on emerging markets (including Africa), aiming for both social/ environmental goals as well as financial returns at acceptable levels.

Through his broad work experience Gerard has a developed a keen insight into the entire investment process, from the first contact with a potential investment candidate through to due diligence, financial modelling, deal structuring, deal execution and portfolio management.

Currently FOUNT and Total Impact Capital Europe are setting up the First Mover Health Fund, a €150m fund investing in four subsectors: manufacturing of medical products, nutrition, healthcare innovations, and care delivery. Gerard is the Fund’s Investment Director.

Gerard obtained his Master’s degree in Macroeconomics at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, the Netherlands.
