Tom Chi, author of the new best-selling book Climate Capital: Investing in the Tools for a Regenerative Future, is the founding and managing partner of At One Ventures. The firm backs early-stage (Seed, Series A) companies using disruptive deep tech to upend the unit economics of established industries while dramatically reducing their planetary footprint.
Chi began his career in astrophysical research at the Harvard-Smithsonian Lab for Astrophysics, studying active galactic nuclei in the infrared. He holds degrees in electrical engineering from Cornell University and contributed to research in autonomous robotics, sensor fusion, parallel computing, and medical imaging before moving into industry roles at Microsoft, Yahoo, and Google.
At Microsoft, he drove major releases and new feature development for Microsoft Outlook. At Yahoo, he developed new product lines and served as an executive on Yahoo Search, leading product, user experience, and analytics for a multi-billion-dollar business operating in 44 countries. At Google, he was a founding member of Google X, leading the product experience team and contributing to projects including Google Glass, Google Self-Driving Car (Waymo), and Project Loon.
After Google, Tom mentored 200+ entrepreneurs tackling global development challenges and later became a venture partner at Hack VC and an EIR at Crosslink Capital, focused on technical diligence across deep tech investments. Tom Chi was recently selected as part of the exclusive Thinkers50 Radar Class of 2026 and brings a fundamentals-driven approach to backing environmentally regenerative technologies.
