Thomas has devoted his entire career to the financial services industry, initially as an operational manager, now as an investor.

Since 2013, Dr. Thomas Schmitt serves as managing partner of Acathia Capital, an investment firm specializing in control investments in insurers and other fully regulated financial institutions through club deals. Operating in this sector underserved by private equity, Acathia Capital originates attractive investment opportunities with low competition. It has a strong track record of generating double-digit returns for its investors – mainly financial institutions familiar with the industry - through a combination of low entry multiples, active value creation, and multiple uplift.

Thomas has gained seven years of executive experience as a member of the executive board of the Winterthur Insurance Group (now AXA). Prior to that, he worked for five years as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and for two years at Deutsche Bank.
