The now famous 1972 Stockholm Conference was the kick-off of the global sustainability effort. The ten-day conference introduced the first scientific investigations of “outer limits” of the earth’s carrying capacity including climate, biodiversity, agricultural and land use, energy, atmospheric sciences, and ocean dumping
