As a Program Manager at FHI 360’s National Institute for Work and Learning (NIWL), Cherine Smith manages the core programmatic functions of Johnson & Johnson's global Bridge to Employment (BTE) initiative. As part of the College and Career Readiness team, Cherine provides technical assistance and programmatic oversight to local programs in the North America, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia Pacific regions. In addition, she leads continuous improvement efforts and manages relationships with corporate and implementing partners. Cherine also leads sustainability and local program scale up technical assistance and co-leads youth engagement programming. Her position effectively contributes to NIWL’s overall goal and mandate of effectively serving underrepresented populations and addressing inequities in the USA and globally. With over nine years of international development experience, Cherine has worked on several projects and programs with non-profit organizations and government agencies across the Caribbean, Central and West Africa and the USA in youth development, social justice, sexual and reproductive health, civil society engagement, governance, and policy advocacy and development. Cherine received a Master of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy from Arcadia University/American Graduate School in Paris and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Law from the University of the West Indies. She is passionate about her field and work because of its ability to empower communities and add value to the lives of others, especially young people. In her spare time, Cherine enjoys writing poetry and listening to music.
