William F. Martin has been committed to sustainability since his first book in l974 Growth and Its Implications for the Future which was presented to the US Congress as a framework for addressing the challenges of addressing sustainability on a global basis. He is a former United States Deputy Secretary of Energy and chief of staff of the US National Security Council. A graduate of the Wharton School and MIT, he served as President of the Council of the United Nations University for Peace, appointed to the Council by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. His writings are featured in the Harvard Business Review, MIT Technology Review and Wall Street Journal. In 2018, received the Order of the Rising Sun from Japanese Emperor Akihito in a ceremony in the Imperial Palace to honor his commitment to US-Japan nuclear energy relations. Today he is Chairman of Washington Policy and Analysis, an Informa Connect company.
