Selina Sagayam is an English qualified Senior of Counsel and recent former partner in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's London office. She is a leader of the firm's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Practice and a member of the firm's corporate group.
Regarded as one of the leading public M&A advisers in the UK, Selina’s practice is focused on international corporate finance transactional work and advisory work focused on environmental, social, governance (ESG) matters, corporate governance, shareholder engagement/stewardship, national security/foreign investment regulation and securities law matters. Selina has exceptional experience in listed company and board advisory matters having had served as a non-executive director on FTSE-listed and financial services company boards.
Selina Sagayam was appointed Senior of Counsel in conjunction with her appointment to the board of the London-listed company, The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG) as a non-executive director which she currently serves on alongside her legal practice. TRIG was one of the first UK-listed investment companies investing in renewable energy infrastructure projects. She chairs TRIG’s newly established ESG Committee. She is also actively engaged in D&I-related issues as a member of the firm’s Global Diversity Committee and chair of its London Diversity, Talent & Inclusion Committee. She is a trustee and Vice Chair of the UK’s largest domestic abuse charity, Refuge and chairs their People, Nomination & Remuneration Committee.
These roles have placed her in a unique position in the context of her ESG advisory work. She established the firm’s UK ESG practice in 2020 and is a co-chair of the firm’s global ESG practice. Selina advises a number of UK and international listed companies on ESG strategy, implementation and design, investor engagement and compliance matters. She also advises various global asset managers across on their ESG firm and portfolio related matters from ESG investment integration to human capital and governance issues.
Selina is dual qualified, having started her legal career as a barrister. Prior to joining Gibson Dunn in January 2007, she practised in London in a leading international law firm for 11½ years. In addition to her secondment to the Takeover Panel, she has also undertaken a secondment to Charterhouse Bank in 1997 (Group Legal & Compliance). Selina holds a certificate in Sustainable Capitalism & ESG from Berkeley Law Executive Education.
