A molecular psychiatrist with 246 peer-reviewed publications (h-index 83), Dr. Macciardi co-discovered PSEN1, the first gene identified for familial Alzheimer's disease. As VP at Genset-Serono (Merck), he led platforms that advanced neuropsychiatric compounds from target identification through market launch. At UC Irvine, his lab pioneered methods revealing transposable elements as epigenetic regulators in Alzheimer's, Schizophrenia, and Autism. He co-chairs the Evolution working group of the ENIGMA consortium, integrating ancient DNA sequencing with virtual brain reconstruction to map the genomic basis of human cognition.
