Ingo trained at the university of Kiel in Germany and undertook further scientific studies at Tufts University in Boston, MA (USA). At the University of Kiel he undertook research resulting in his thesis about molecular mechanisms of cell membrane fusion with special emphasis to proteins of the synaptic fusion complex in 2005. Ingo’s focus moved to paediatrics in 2002 firstly through his research interest in applying robotics in gait rehabilitation in children and specialises in epilepsy.
Ingo finished his epilepsy training under the supervision of Professor Soheyl Noachtar (Munich, Germany) in 2008. He is currently the Head of Paediatric Epilepsy, and the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the Department of Paediatric Neurology, Developmental Medicine and Social Paediatrics at the Children’s Hospital in Munich, where he has conducted several clinical trials within the field of paediatric epilepsy and principal investigator in many of the key studies in this field being conducted in Germany. His key areas of interest are the medical treatment of epilepsy (i.e. precision bases approaches), epilepsy surgery, frontal lobe in epilepsy, epilepsy genetics, and neurostimulation. He was recognised for his work in the field of epilepsy and was elected a Fellow of the American Epilepsy Society in 2020. Since 2022, he serves as editor in chief for “Neuropediatrics”.
