Dr. Wang Zhong, winner of the silver medal in the International Chemistry Olympiad and the special award of the Presidential Scholarship of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Wang Zhong graduated from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From August 1996 to November 1999, he conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University. In November 1999, he joined Pharmacyclics, Inc. to engage in the research and development of new anti-cancer drugs. Since November 2010, he has successively served as a researcher, senior researcher and chief scientist at Pacific Biosciences. Dr. Wang Zhong is the main person in charge of the research and development of two sequencing platforms of Pacific Biosciences, PacBio RS and PacBio Sequel. He has been in charge of many important responsibilities such as process development of the chemical department, outsourcing of production, and establishment of ISO quality system. He has published 30 international journal papers in multiple fields such as organic chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, and enzyme mimicry, and applied for more than 10 patents.
