Dr. Simpson is Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto and is Research Chair in Forensic Psychiatry and Senior Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. He has served in directorial and advisory roles on multiple national and international forensic organizations. He is a member of the Editorial Board of seven scientific journal based in Canada, the UK, Italy and international audiences. He is a member of the Council of Reviewers of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and has over 140 refereed papers in the scientific literature, and one book, many book chapters and monographs. He is an occasional columnist for the Globe and Mail. His academic interest focusses on the issue of violence and psychotic illness: including understanding the illness and social causes of violence, pathways into criminal justice system and therapeutic intervention and recovery.
