Sanjay is the Asia-Pacific as well as the national public policy leader for Deloitte South Asia. He leads complex tax projects for Deloitte India on advance pricing agreement (APA) and mutual agreement procedure (MAP) and co-leads tax policy initiatives. He recently led some marquee tax projects on tax administration digitisation. He has the Deloitte badge of “Transforming Tax and Customs Authorities Specialist”.

Sanjay led Deloitte India’s G20/B20 effort. Deloitte India’s engagement on G20 were quite deep and covers being knowledge partner for the task forces on trade & investment, energy, climate change and resource deficiency, ESG in business as well Startup20.

Sanjay was earlier with the Indian Revenue Service for more than 28 years, holding many assignments in the tax department as well as in the finance ministry and other ministries. He has been members of many expert committees of the government. He was also the Secretary of the Tax Administration Reform Commission, set up by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

He was India’s representative in the WTO on IPR, trade specifications, environment and labour for more than three years and negotiated multilateral and bilateral trade agreements.

He is an IMF-empaneled tax administration assessor and has done World Bank assignments on tax reforms.

He has been Senior Fellow and Adjunct Professor of public policy at the Duke University, USA since 2007, teaching courses on public finance and revenue forecasting.

He has published several academic papers on tax, revenue forecasting, transfer pricing, trade and industry issues in reputed national and international journals.
