Matthew is the UK Advocacy Manager at the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME), which is the voice of Europe's wholesale financial markets, providing expertise across a broad range of regulatory and capital markets issues. In his role, Matthew coordinates and engages with policymakers and stakeholders on issues impacting UK financial markets, contributing to AFME’s priority areas within the UK. He has helped lead interactions with the new Labour Government, pinpointing how AFME members' expertise can foster deep, integrated, and sustainable markets beneficial to both companies and investors. Additionally, Matthew represents AFME on committees within various UK trade associations.
Before joining AFME, Matthew worked at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as a subject matter expert in cryptoassets and capital markets reform. He also has experience in international workstreams, working with both the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and the International Organization of Securities Commission (IOSCO) on topics such as retail derivatives and artificial intelligence. At the FCA, Matthew played a vital role in developing regulatory frameworks for emerging technologies and market practices, ensuring these frameworks met objectives related to consumer protection, market integrity, and competition.
