Mark K Norbury is a Founding Partner of Scenic’s fund business,which focuses on direct venture secondary and pre-IPO growthequity investing. His experience includes raising debt and equity capital for privately held businesses, including Private Equity and Venture Capital backed businesses and family enterprises. On the buy-side, he has led over USD 500 MM inequity investments and has helped portfolio companies to attract further co-investor capital and to develop business globally. On the sell-side, has originated billions of dollars of new business for HSBC and JP Morgan.

Mark has extensive experience helping issuers and investors to access deal situations and to optimize financing in direct deals, primarily in the private capital markets. Having lived and worked in the US, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America, he has deep relationships with PE, VC, Sovereign Wealth Funds, wealth managers and family offices globally.

During his time as Director of HSBC’s Principal Investments Business, based in the UK and Brazil, Mark served on a variety of Boards. In the clean-tech space, this experience includes a concentrated PV solar system developer and manufacturer, a fuel cell developer and manufacturer, and an electric vehicle ecosystem venture. In Latin America, the portfolio included a menswear retailer in Brazil and the leading food staples processing and distribution business in Latin America.

Following his successful career at HSBC in its elite International Manager program, Mark was tapped to set up two cross-line-of-business groups focusing on Billionaire Investors and Entrepreneurs and their family offices. He served as Regional Head for North America and Latin America at HSBC, bringing together the firm’s Commercial Banking, Investment Banking, and Private Banking offerings to its most valuable Ultra High Net Worth client relationships.

He was then recruited to join JP Morgan as Managing Director in its Private Client Advisory team to bring direct deals, IB equity and debt financing solutions, and M&A advisory services to UHNW client relationships. At the University of Pennsylvania, Mark earned his Bachelor of Arts in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies(Summa Cum Laude) and a Master of Government Administration at Penn’s Fels Institute of Government. His thesis was on the Policy and Politics of Economic Revival in Post-Bubble Japan.

Born in Tokyo and raised in San Francisco, Mark has also lived in London, Malta, Doha, Sao Paulo, and he is now based in New York City. His personal interests include contemporary art, jazz, wine, cooking, fitness, and the outdoors; he started skiing at age two and has been going downhill ever since.
