Maegan Courchene is a proud Anishinaabe woman from Lake Manitoba First Nation and Sagkeeng First Nation, whose leadership is helping shape the future of Naawi-Oodena and advance First Nation self-determination across Treaty One Territory. Maegan serves as the Director of Property and Planning for Treaty One Nations Inc., where she oversees the management and development of Naawi-Oodena, Canada's largest First Nations Economic Development Zone. Her work ensures that planning and growth at Naawi-Oodena reflect the values, traditions, and long-term vision of the Treaty One Nations. Holding an Advanced Bachelor of Arts in Native Studies and Environmental Studies, and a Master's Degree in City Planning from the University of Manitoba, Maegan's academic focus has always emphasized Indigenous planning perspectives and advocacy. She brings this expertise into every aspect of her work, ensuring that development is not only sustainable but grounded in community and culture. Maegan's work shows how planning can be an act of reclamation, restoring our connection to the land while building a future rooted in culture, sustainability, and Nationhood.
