As we get ready to celebrate our 25th year of the Advanced EU Competition Law conference, we round up a selection of some of our unmissable panels and talks at our Brussels conference later this month. You can join us from 21st – 24th November.

Strategies for Defendants and Claimants – Panel Session – Focus Day

The first panel of this year’s conference takes place on our focus day. Specialists from various areas of competition law will discuss the potential consequences of the Damages Directive, the best strategies for in house counsel, and how to quantify a claim. Speakers include representatives from Sappi Europe (Hannes Boner, General Counsel), Cartel Damage Claims (Till Schreiber, Managing Director), Vodafone Group (Wayne Spillett, Senior Solicitor in Competition Law), Thyssenkrupp Elevator AG (Philipp Voet van Vormizeele, Head of Legal) and Calunius Capital LLP (Christian Stuerwald, Head of Case Assessment).

Brexit: Implications for Competition Law – Breakfast Briefing – Day 1

Breakfast briefings are back! Over coffee and (probably) croissants, you can discuss the issues of tomorrow. Guided by Ros Kellaway (Head of EU Competition and Regulatory group at Eversheds) explore how Brexit could change the face of competition law. How could the referendum alter the relationship between UK and EU courts?

Oxford Style Debate: How Political is Competition Law? – Day 1

It will be a war of words and a battle of wills as two competition law titans go head-to-head to answer the big question: how political is competition law? Choose your side and sit back and watch this Oxford Style debate, which promises to be both invigorating and polarizing. Mathew Heim (VP and General Counsel, Government Affairs Europe) of Qualcomm Inc will tackle the arguments posed by Frédéric Jenny (Professor of Economics at the ESSEC Business School in Paris, OECD Competition Committee).

A View From the Court – Day 2

In a conference full of esteemed speakers and varied opinions, the keynote speech on November 23rd may take pride of place. Marc van der Woude is the Dutch judge at the General Court of the European Union. With a distinguished resume – including posts at DG Commission, the European Court of Justice and fifteen years practicing European and Competition Law as part of the Brussels bar – and a prominent position in European law, Marc van der Woude will undoubtedly provide a unique view on current trends and legislation in competition law.

Workshop – Compliance – Best Practice – Workshop Day

After the conference itself, you can join a panel of experts on 24th November for an in-depth look at compliance in competition law. Explore the Commission’s view of current programmes, how to handle a dawn raid, and what to do when it comes to handling your reputation and allegations. The workshop will be moderated by Sarah Jordan, a partner at Kirkland and Ellis International LLP and will run from 9am to 12pm. Our fantastic speakers are: Ann Marie Galvin of Unilever Legal Group, Veerle Nuyts from bpost, the ICC’s Competition on Commission’s Simone Pieri and Simon Neill of Johnson & Johnson.
