Nathan Knies is an accomplished finance and sustainability leader with extensive experience in accounting, sustainability reporting, and risk management. As Director of Sustainability Controllership at Eli Lilly and Company, he oversees global sustainability data collection and controls, driving transparency and accountability in sustainability initiatives. Nathan became Lilly’s first sustainability Controller in 2023 and developed a ground-up assurance-ready approach in sustainability reporting. Additionally, Nathan leads a monthly health industries Sustainability Controller peer forum, bringing colleagues together to share best practices and insights. Nathan’s career at Lilly over the past 15 spans roles in internal audit, financial planning, and third-party risk management. Prior to joining Lilly, Nathan has held financial and audits roles at organizations such as Sara Lee as well as PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. He is a CPA (Indiana) as well as Certified Internal Auditor and earned his MBA from Indiana University and Bachelor of Business Administration Accounting from Marquette University.
