Speaker

Profile

Dr. Shiran Shapira, PhD, is a scientist, entrepreneur, and Co-Founder and Chief Scientific and Technology Officer (CSO/CTO) of Nano24, a biotechnology company pioneering the development of exosome-based therapeutics.

She is also a senior researcher at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and a faculty member at Tel Aviv University.

Dr. Shapira is one of the key scientific leaders behind EXO-CD24, an innovative exosome-based therapeutic platform designed to selectively regulate excessive immune activation through CD24.

She has led the translation of EXO-CD24 from an academic discovery into a clinical-stage therapeutic program, overseeing its scientific development, exosome engineering and characterization, mechanism-of-action studies, manufacturing strategy, CMC development, and regulatory advancement.

Under her scientific leadership, EXO-CD24 has progressed through multiple clinical studies, including randomized, placebo-controlled clinical development, generating encouraging clinical and safety data in patients with severe inflammatory disease.

Her work bridges fundamental extracellular vesicle biology with drug development, with a particular focus on transforming engineered exosomes into reproducible, scalable, and clinically viable therapeutics.

Dr. Shapira’s research and translational work span extracellular vesicle biology, immune modulation, exosome engineering, biomarker development, and advanced biotherapeutic manufacturing.
She is particularly focused on addressing one of the field’s central challenges: translating the biological potential of extracellular vesicles into robust therapeutic products capable of progressing from the laboratory to patients.
