Dr. Marjo Puumalainen’s professional path has taken her across academia, corporate research, and biotechnology startups. Her work underscores her commitment to building bridges between research, industry globally, ensuring that Nordic life science innovation continues to make its mark on the world stage.

Currently, Dr. Puumalainen is the International Director of SwedenBIO, the leading industry organization for the Swedish life sciences. In this role, she is dedicated to strengthening Sweden’s international presence by fostering partnerships, investments, and global collaborations. She also plays a key role in the largest Nordic life science partnering conference, Nordic Life Science Days (NLSDays), which serve as a key platform for connecting Nordic innovation with international stakeholders.

She earned her PhD in cancer biology at the University of Zurich and went on to conduct research at the Karolinska Institutet, where her work focused on infectious diseases, drug discovery, and pandemic preparedness. She served as Chief Scientific Officer at Biomedrex, a company pioneering CRISPR-based antiviral therapies.
