Ricardo is a Biotech Engineer with extensive experience in cell therapy globally, managing teams developing innovative bioprocess and analytical solutions for the scalable and affordable manufacture of cell therapies, at the likes of CCRM (CA), Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult (UK), Cellectis (FR), Procella Tx and Alder Tx (SE). He was involved in the generation of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines in GMP, and on the design of GMP facilities for the large-scale manufacturing of cell and gene therapies. Ricardo combines extensive knowledge in CMC, Quality Assurance, and Regulatory Affairs, and is member of international committees and advisory boards propelling best practices to standardize development of iPSC therapies and novel therapeutic modalities. His strategic focus is to build agile teams to de-risk the product cycle from early world-class scientific discovery to commercial manufacture having the end product in mind since the start. Ricardo got his PhD degree at Instituto Superior Técnico (PT) and post-doctoral studies at Peter Zandstra Bioengineering Lab (CA). Ricardo is the current CTO of SmartCella.
