Umesh Nair is a strategic leader and “intrapreneur” whose work spans business development, innovation and operational excellence across multiple segments (Academia, Pharma, Biotech, CDMO, CRO, CMO, and IVD sectors). He currently leads business development for Merck Life Science molecular materials across the APeC region, with particular expertise in oligonucleotides - from quality control applications to the development of cutting-edge diagnostic assays, thereby advancing Merck’s capabilities of Diagnostic and Regulated Materials within regulated, GMP-like environments.

His leadership extends beyond commercial strategy. As a champion of Merck’s MyGrowth program across ANZ, he has helped build internal talent pathways, equipping colleagues with the tools to pursue new opportunities within the organization. Having recently returned to Singapore, after living in Melbourne for 17 years, he has also contributed to AusBiotech’s Cell & Gene Catalyst working groups, supporting the growth of Australia’s advanced therapeutics ecosystem.
