Dr. Norbert Schmitz is Managing Director of 4C. 4C is a globally leading certification system for coffee and cocoa with more than 300,000 farmers in 20 countries, producing 1.8 mill tons of 4C certified coffee. Norbert studied business administration at the University of Cologne where he also acquired his PhD. He initiated the development of GRAS Global Risk Assessment Services, a one stop solution provider for risk assessments and deforestation free supply chains. Norbert is Managing Director of GRAS and is responsible for the EUDR Coffee Check, a joint effort of GRAS and the German Coffee Association (DKV). Norbert also served a Member of the Advisory Board on the Climate Dialogue of the German Federal Government and supported as a reviewer a recent study of the US National Academies on current methods for life cycle analysis. Norbert was involved in several projects for European Commission, Ministries of EU Member states, US State Agencies, as well as private sector clients.
