Dr. Matsuda is a Vice President of Chemistry at City Therapeutic, where he leads the extrahepatic delivery platform, oligonucleotide chemistry and the oligo synthesis group. With more than 20 years’ experience of nucleoside and oligonucleotide modifications, ligand discovery and conjugation chemistry, his work is dedicated to improve PK/PD of RNAi therapeutics and the safety profiles.
Prior to City Therapeutics, Dr. Matsuda spent 1 year at Laronde to lead delivery platform chemistry for circular RNA and worked for 15 years at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals on siRNA delivery technologies using GalNAc and LNP platforms as well as chemical modification approaches, which successfully led to multiple FDA approved drugs.
Dr. Matsuda earned his Ph.D. from Kyoto University, Japan, on the study of synthesis of functionalized oligonucleotides in Prof Isao Saito’s lab and then worked with Profs. Peter Schultz and Floyd Romesberg at Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA on expanding the genetic alphabet as his post-doctoral study. He has authored >50 peer-reviewed publications and >20 patents on nucleic acid chemistry and oligonucleotide delivery chemistry.
