Manoj Subramanian is the Senior Technical Advisor at the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), with 15 years of hands-on seagoing experience as a Marine engineer onboard ships. He has been actively involved in IMO discussions on ballast water management and Biofouling contributing to the global regulatory dialogue and offers a unique perspective shaped by both technical knowledge gained by practical experience on ships and also the regulatory development experience at IMO.

Manoj’s presentation (Navigating the Evolving Landscape of Biofouling Regulations: Global Updates and Regional Insights) will offer a comprehensive update on the latest developments surrounding the IMO Biofouling Guidelines, including progress toward potential mandatory Biofouling Convention. The session will also explore the key regulatory frameworks that have emerged at the national level — specifically Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and the upcoming Norway Biofouling regulation, each adopting distinct approaches to biofouling control and enforcement.
