Profile

Yang Mei, Ph.D., is a Senior Scientist with expertise in upstream bioprocess development, process analytical technology (PAT), and biologics manufacturing. She leads the development, scale-up, and technology transfer of mammalian cell culture processes, applying advanced monitoring, automation, and data analytics to enhance productivity, product quality, and process robustness. Her work spans real-time CO₂ monitoring and control, vibrational spectroscopy, biocapacitance, and multivariate modeling, supporting more efficient, data-driven bioprocess development.

Her experience encompasses cell culture and protein purification, process characterization, manufacturing support, and cross-functional project leadership. She is passionate about advancing digitalization and automation in bioprocessing, mentoring emerging scientists, and fostering collaborative, science-driven teams. Earlier in her career, Yang conducted multidisciplinary research in structural biology, chemical biology, autophagy, and virus–host interactions using X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy. She earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from North Dakota State University, an M.S. in Bioengineering from East China University of Science and Technology, and a B.S. in Biotechnology from Hunan University.
