Profile

I am a protein biochemist with experience in bioactive compounds extraction, seaweed
bioprocessing, crop biostimulants, enzymology, protein chemistry, analytical chemistry and carbohydrate science.

I currently hold the position of Chief Technical Officer with Brandon Bioscience (Tralee, Ireland). I am responsible for overseeing technical aspects of Brandon Bioscience (e.g. supervision of research projects, development and integration of new processes, technologies or products).

I am a named inventor on 3 patents in the agroindustry sector and have published and presented widely in the field of phytochemistry, plant physiology and plant biostimulants. I have also supervised 1 x PhD and 1 x MSc research projects about the development of novel plant biostimulants to completion.

I received my Degree in Chemistry from the University of Navarra (Spain), a MSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Complutense University of Madrid (Spain) and completed my PhD in Plant Protein Biochemistry at ICTAN-CSIC (Spain) and Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). I have also previously worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Max Planck Institute of Plant Breeding Research (Cologne, Germany) and as Postdoctoral Researcher in Shannon ABC / Institute of Technology Tralee.

Specialties: Protein chemistry, carbohydrate chemistry, isolation and purification techniques of biomolecules (native and recombinant proteins, carbohydrates), FPLC (ÄKTA system), SDS-PAGE, Western blot techniques, RT-qPCR, RNA-seq, bioinformatic analysis, HPLC, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, enzymology, microcalorimetry, UV-vis, FT-IR, fluorescence spectroscopy, formulation of novel methodologies, clonation techniques, biostatistics, R programming.
