Andreas Castan has more than 25 years of experience in the biotech industry, with a strong focus on bioprocess development, scale‑up, and manufacturing. In his current role, he provides leadership and strategic support to Cytiva’s Bioprocess business, working closely with biopharmaceutical companies to address challenges in upstream processing, productivity, and manufacturing readiness.

Andreas is widely recognized for his deep technical expertise and is a frequent contributor to the industry through scientific publications, book chapters, conference presentations, webinars, and articles.

Prior to joining Cytiva, Andreas served as Director of Upstream Development at Swedish Orphan Biovitrum (Sobi), where he led the development of expression systems, microbial and mammalian cell culture processes, and the scale‑up of processes to cGMP manufacturing. He has held multiple roles in biopharmaceutical development, including project leadership, line management, and manufacturing.

Andreas holds a Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm.
