Dr. Alberto S. Japp is Director and Co-founder of Captain T Cell, a Berlin-based biotechnology company developing next-generation TCR-engineered cell therapies for solid tumors. He leads the company's preclinical R&D activities, overseeing the discovery, optimization, and translational development of engineered T-cell therapies from target selection through IND-enabling studies. His work focuses on T-cell receptor engineering, synthetic biology, and novel approaches to enhance the efficacy and persistence of adoptive cell therapies. In addition to leading research programs, Dr. Japp drives the company's intellectual property strategy and collaborates with regulatory, clinical, and industry partners to advance innovative immunotherapies toward the clinic. Prior to founding Captain T Cell, he conducted immunology research at the University of Pennsylvania and Baxalta. He holds a PhD in Immunology from Humboldt University of Berlin, is an inventor on multiple immunotherapy patents, and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Cell, Nature Communications, Science Translational Medicine, and Journal of Clinical Investigation.
