Profile
Rutger Douma holds a BSc and MSc in Biotechnology from Wageningen University and a PhD in Bioprocess Technology from Delft University of Technology. He began his industrial career at Novozymes (now Novonesis), working in the Fermentation and Recovery Pilot Plant, where he focused on the development and scale-up of biofermentative enzyme manufacturing processes to the hm³ scale.
In 2016, he joined Johnson & Johnson, where he has held roles of increasing responsibility across Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) and Operations, supporting both monoclonal antibody and vaccine platforms.
He is currently Director, MSAT Advanced Therapies. In this role, he led the global tech transfer strategy for lentiviral vector manufacturing to enable CAR‑T production across a distributed biomanufacturing network. He has since established and now leads the site MSAT organization, supporting and overseeing commercial Advanced Therapies manufacturing.
