Data shows that both working at the sea and managing it from the office can be very stressful, and that wrong decisions have a high cost.

The proposed course is intended for both management at the office and management on board. What's important for the management at the office is ships being on time, retention of crews, zero equipment failures, zero personnel injuries etc. What's important for ship crews is the ability to cope with work-related stress, fewer conflicts and injuries and good communication, skills to handle specific working environment challenges: noise, vibrations, rolling, nausea, separation from loved ones etc.

The programme looks at welfare management in the context of mindfulness. Crew welfare can help not only mitigate stress but help with crew retention, it helps with the training of crew managers in recognising issues and building a better team.
