Maria began her maritime career as a young light-sailor in the tanker segment across the seven seas, and has since taken part in multiple ship buildings, vessel construction projects, registration and vessel handovers, at ports in Middle East, Far East Asia, and in Norway.

She is well represented and visible on the owner side of shipping, ships financing, ship management and port management, earning her the nickname The Flag Lady.

The Certificate in Ship Registration was co-launched together with Lloyds Maritime and INFORMA spearheading authorship, mentoring and the trainings worldwide for maritime professionals within Maritime Law, Insurance, and Contracts.

Under her appointed directorship, Maria is part of the Board, sharing her extensive industry knowledge of Maritime Conventions and Flag States.

Maria Rita Skog, a multiple award-winning maritime figure, reflects her achievements through career milestones ranging from:

• World’s First Multi-Gas Carrier AIP Team Win by LLOYDS and LISCR in 2023.
• Mariner’s Award for commitment and service in Singapore 2016.
• SEATRADE Cruise Asia Pacific 2013.

Lately in 2026 Maria Rita Skog received her fourth maritime industry award, this time placing her in Top 100 Women in Shipping where she stands as the No 1 Academia 2025/2026.
