Mr. Gil Zhang specializes in privacy and data protection, cyber security, and AI regulatory compliance. He has assisted companies in establishing data protection governance frameworks, global data protection strategies, and compliance systems under the GDPR, as well as privacy and personal information protection laws in China and other Asia-Pacific countries. He has been recognized as a Band 1 and leading individual in data protection law in China by Chambers and Legal500.

He also specializes in assisting clients to localize GDPR or FTC-mandated privacy protection systems to China and respond to enforcement actions by both domestic and foreign authorities. As the APAC data protection head, Mr. Zhang participated in BCR applications under the GDPR and the global implementation of GDPR, making him one of the few Chinese lawyers with international data protection experience. Mr. Zhang has also handled numerous complex dispute matters, including criminal investigations of infringement on citizens' personal data, employee misuse of confidential company information, unauthorized use of data by employees, data breaches caused by data security incidents, and reporting such breaches to the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), as well as responding to various government enforcement actions.

He also provides AI regulatory and operational services to various clients either as AI providers or AI deployer, which includes AI market entry filing with Chinese regulators, regulatory compliance issues related to training data collection and annotation, fairness review, content moderation, technology and AI outsourcing services, product liability issues as well as other issues in the pack of AI offering in and outside China.
