Recently, the topic of women in shipping and broader DEI discussions have surfaced in less than desirable ways – from sever instances of abuse and harassment, to still dramatic underrepresentation of women and other minority groups, to industry leaders proclaiming the situation solved. However, a lot of work is being done in the field by very devoted professionals and there is a clear mandate for diversity at sea. In this conversation we aim to spell out this mandate, through the power of positive example amongst some of the leading owners and operators and sense-check these with seafarers for a truer picture of where we need to go from here.
