The Reverend Mark Nestlehutt is the 10th President & Executive Director of the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI). Founded in New York City in 1834 as a mission of the Episcopal Church (Anglican Communion), SCI is the largest mariner service agency in North America and focuses on seafarer welfare and pastoral care through vessel visiting, counseling, transportation and hospitality through Port Chaplaincy and Ministry on the Rivers+Gulf; mariner continuing education and professional training through its Center for Maritime Education; and mariner advocacy and seafarer rights through its Center for Mariner Advocacy (formerly the Center for Seafarer’s Rights).
Mark has more than two decades of parish, school, and diocesan experience in the United States, Australia and South Africa. Prior to ordination, he worked in finance and banking, and served as line officer in the U.S. Navy. Mark is a trustee of the National Waterways Foundation, Inc., board chair of the Life Saving Benevolent Association (LSBA), and vice-chair of the board of the International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA). He holds a B.A. in economics, a M.A. in international relations and foreign policy, and a M.Div. in ethics.
