Arvind NatrajanSenior Manager at ICS (International Chamber of Shipping)Speaker
Profile
After a sea-going career of 20 years which culminated with command experience of over 5 years on oil and chemical tankers, Arvind transitioned ashore in 2015 into the academic sector. As a lecturer at a UK-based University, he was involved in delivering specialised training modules directed at all levels of competency of seafarers. Following a brief stint as a Port State Control Inspector, he is now the Senior Manager at the International Chamber of Shipping, representing over 80% of the world’s shipowners. Arvind is a key contributor to the joint IMO-Maritime Just Transition Task Force project to develop competencies for seafarers working on ships of the future propelled by alternative fuels. This will eventually result into a complete revision of the mandatory training for seafarers on alternatively fuelled ships. His output in this project has the potential to impact nearly a million seafarers and will be critical towards achieving IMO’s ambition to decarbonise international shipping by or around 2050.
