Capt. Belal is the current Chairman of International Maritime Employers Council (IMEC) and Managing Director of ship management company Western Shipping in Singapore. Experience and knowledge gathered with more than four decades in the Shipping industry, he is well known globally for his contributions in various fields. Capt Belal started his career at sea as a Deck Cadet in 1978 and left as Master in 2000. His work in ship management started immediately thereafter and continues till today. As an IMEC Director for more than 15 years, he has made an immense contribution to the excellent role IMEC plays in the Maritime industry, especially with regards to seafarers’ welfare, training, and industrial relations. He continues to dedicate his time to address the challenges faced by Seafarers and Industry towards a sustainable shipping environment.
