Martin Kröger is Chief Executive Officer of the German Shipowners’ Association (VDR). In parallel, he serves as Managing Director of the German Shipping Foundation, which supports training and education for seafarers in Germany. Dr. Kröger is an active member of numerous international maritime advisory committees and expert groups, and represents the shipping industry at various intergovernmental and international bodies. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the European Shipowners’ Association ECSA in Brussels and alternate member of the Board of Directors of the International Chamber of Shipping in London. He chairs the ECSA Safety and Environmental Committee and the Marine Committee of the ICS, contributing to sustainable and safe shipping policy development.
Dr. Kröger holds a Law degree from the University of Hamburg (2001), a Master of Laws in Shipping Law with honors from the University of Cape Town (2003), and a Doctor of Laws (Dr. iur.) from the University of Hamburg (2006). He was admitted to the Hamburg bar in 2007 and founded a law and consultancy practice. In 2023, he successfuly completed the executive program in Economic Development at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
