Julia Anastasiou is the Group Chief Crew Management Officer for Crew Management in OSM Thome and Managing Director of the OSM Thome Cyprus office. The Cyprus office is the head of the group’s Crew Management operation where Julia is based. Responsible for over 29,000 seafarers, Julia focuses her efforts on being the employer of choice for seafarers who are subsequently the Group’s most important asset.
Julia’s noteworthy professional and academic accomplishments include attaining fellowship with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and an MBA from the University of Warwick. She holds various roles within the shipping community including being an elected member of the Advisory Committee on the Competitiveness of the Cyprus Maritime Cluster for the Shipping Deputy Ministry, member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, member of the Board of Trustees for the OSM – AD Foundation, holding several Board roles globally and being a member of various associations.
Julia had her first academic work published in 2017 for the World Maritime University (WMU) in Sweden, founded by the IMO. In 2019, Julia was awarded the young disruptor award for her contributions to the shipping industry by the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In 2024, Julia was voted as one of the top 100 Women in Shipping and aims to continue raising the bar when it concerns the wellbeing and development of seafarers. In February 2024, Julia was invited to participate at the joint ILO/IMO Tripartite Working Group (JTWG) on Bullying and Harassment at the IMO Headquarters in London where she addressed the delegates and shared company best practices on how OSM Thome champions an ecosystem against harassment, bullying and violence.
Julia has been actively engaged in the industry for 28 years having focused her career on the human element. Personal and career development initiatives have been at the forefront of the work she has focused on supporting an equal opportunity and sustainable environment for seafarers where diversity and inclusion are at the heart of her career achievements. Privately, Julia is happily married and a proud mother of two adult children. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring new corners of the world with her loved ones and has a passion for animals and cooking.
