Maria Rita Skog
Academic Course Director at Lloyd's Maritime Academy
Trainer

Profile

Maria’s maritime career was sparked by curiosity from a young age when sailing on merchant tankers with her folks in the 1990s, as well as helping at shipyards during her teenage years of early 2000s. Being onboard Oil Tankers, Parcel Chemical Tankers, Offshore Support Vessels, and witnessing the construction of a Residential Cruise Ship, was part of life at sea and shore, and overseas Global School Programming and International Education.

During her time at the Royal Melbourne University of Technology (RMIT), she was one of ABC Radio National Newsreaders, often airing Seafarers stories and updates on the Pacific Island nations and its maritime history. From there she was stationed in Singapore training as a commodities reporter for the Consumer News & Business Channel by NBC Universal.

This led to working with navigation, with Maria as Project Executive, and her colleagues from the Norwegian Navy, looking over suppliers of charts and digital navigation services for ship owners’ technical operations and fleet management.

Whilst working a decade in Singapore, most of it was Maria’s dedication to Ships Agency: INCHCAPE SHIPPING SERVICES and WILHELMSEN GROUP.

With Maria’s extensive and successful experience from living and working in all world’s continents, she is used to managing the expectations of all parties involved and its third parties in the maritime industry.

She is well versed with the commodity trade flows and the key players in shipping, oil & gas, offshore, mining and agriculture, law and legal, banking and finance.

Lately Maria worked with Flag State, as one of the Regional General Managers for the Liberian International Ships and Corporate Registry, LISCR, for vessel registrations and transactions, and Port State Control.

Together with Lloyds in 2023, Maria was part of the award hand over of LR & LISCR Award Design Approval, for the world’s first 22,000 cbm multi-gas carrier, to HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD).

In January 2024, Maria was appointed as Academic Course Director for the Diploma in Ships Agency and Port Management.
