Profile
We have been providing our investor-partners strategic exposure to the $5+ trillion Indian listed market (our specialty is in the ~$1 trillion mid-small cap market (<$5b) but we are market cap/sector agnostic) since 2011. Our firm's name is Metis Capital Management and the fund we manage is called Metis India Opportunity Fund (MIOF). We offer "true" Indian equity long-term alpha and are an ideal choice for investors who take a deep dive approach and realize the huge variation in EM market characteristics. Just as critical, they tend to have the capacity & desire to hold on for the long-run (minimum 5+ years). For us the goal and timeline are clear: capture for our partners the fair share of the massive wealth creation that will occur during next 10 years as India nears $10t economy (12% annualized nominal growth). Even given the crazed volatility in the space, for most of the years since inception, we have achieved our minimum goal, by outperforming the S&P BSE 500 index by minimum 300-500bps since 2011 inception. The main thing we focus on is annualized lifetime return. We hold superior than average businesses in our concentrated, low-turnover portfolio of primarily under $2b businesses run by exceptional owner-managers. As the annualized number is at a likely low point, we expect to do much better going forward and as “we eat our own cooking”, we are seeking truly long-term, high-conviction, and clear-headed capital owners as investor- partners.
I have publicly committed to create a charity corpus by initially allocating 30% of annual share of net earnings (management and incentive fees) from fund management.
We welcome the opportunity to discuss in further detail, especially if there is long-term alignment with these principles.
