Profile

Phil has gained deep global leadership experience in private equity as both a General Partner (GP) and a Limited Partner (LP) over the past 15 years; Working with teams from emerging managers to large established institutional investors, his experience principally spans investing, fund-raising, and advisory activities at large global institutional investors like GE Asset Management and Credit Suisse, as well as smaller boutique firms, like Zoscales Partners and Kuramo Capital Management, Africa’s largest multi-asset class investor.

Through deploying ~$300MM as a GP, Phil developed expertise in sourcing, underwriting, and management of buyout, growth capital, expansion capital, and venture capital investments from early-stage opportunities to mid-market transactions; served as a board director or board observer for investee companies; actively participated in capital raising activities and fund marketing to institutional investors; and, managed LP relationships. On the LP side, he deployed ~$500MM in capital across various fund strategies including buyout funds, mid-market funds, growth capital funds, and emerging managers, and served on several limited partner advisory boards/committees (LPACs). Of tremendous value, he has established a high impact global network over 15 years of relationships with LPs, GPs, entrepreneurs, management teams, and advisors across professional networks at GE, Credit Suisse, Wharton, and MIT.

In his role as President & CEO of Kent Global Group, a private Equity consultancy, Phil advises institutional LP and GP clients on investing, fund-raising, and advisory activities. Previously, Phil was a Partner, Managing Director & Member of the Investment Committee at Kuramo Capital Management, a boutique Africa-focused multi-asset class investment manager with offices in New York, Kenya, and Nigeria between 2018 and 2020. At Kuramo, he approved, managed, and led investing related activities of a team focused on regional and pan-Africa PE investments, and represented the firm on portfolio company boards.

Previously, Phil had an 11-year career at GE Asset Management, a GE subsidiary with $120B in AUM where he was a Senior Portfolio Manager, Private Equity. In this role he underwrote ~$300MM in direct deals and active co-investments in North America, Europe, and Asia; deployed ~$500MM in PE funds globally; and secured $340MM for a GE-sponsored institutional PE fund.

Earlier in his career, Phil was an Equity Research Analyst, Cable/Media/Telecom at Credit Suisse in New York City. Previously, Phil started his career as an entrepreneur, co-founding a technology solutions business based on his graduate research while a student at MIT, and was an early employee of a leading VC funded VoIP start-up, which was acquired by KPN, a large European carrier.

Phil received his Master of Business Administration with a Major in Finance from The Wharton School; his M.S. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and, his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from The University of Rochester.
