Over the past 25 years, Mr Scharmann has worked in various areas of banking, including derivatives, securitisation, debt capital markets, credit risk management, portfolio management and treasury. Before joining Santander Consumer Bank AG in 2014, he spent 13 years in London, most recently as Managing Director in the Treasury division of RBS and before that several years in the Debt Capital Markets division of ABN Amro Bank.
In his current role as Head of Treasury for Santander's unit in Germany, Mr Scharmann is responsible for normal treasury activities such as liquidity and interest rate risk management as well as money market execution and capital management. Since 2016, his unit has also been responsible for local recovery & resolution planning. During the Corona crisis, his additional responsibility for the coordination of Special Situation Management has already been successfully tested.
