Trevor Montano has over 20 years of experience in investment banking and portfolio management focused on the financial services industry and preferred and hybrid capital securities. Prior to founding the West Potomac Capital, Trevor was a Partner and Managing Director at Moelis & Company, a global investment bank, where he provided strategic and financial advice to a range of financial institutions including banks, specialty finance and financial technology companies. He was also responsible for building the bank M&A practice for Moelis & Company. Prior to joining Moelis & Company, he served as the Chief Investment Officer at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and was responsible for managing financial institution investments made by the U.S. Government under the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). Trevor assumed responsibility for, and management of, the portfolio of ~$5 billion in investments (~100 institutions) in 2014 and largely wound it down over three years, balancing speed of exit with maximizing taxpayer recoveries. This portfolio consisted of preferred shares, common equity and warrants in U.S. banks and specialty finance companies. He also served on over 10 bank and bank holding company boards of directors during his tenure at the U.S. Department of Treasury. Prior to public service, he worked as an investment banker at Citigroup and UBS AG in their respective Financial Institution Groups where he was responsible for M&A origination, capital raising, debt financing and structuring, underwriting and distribution of preferred and hybrid capital securities. As an accomplished corporate finance advisor and portfolio manager, Trevor has completed more than 30 strategic M&A and capital raising transactions for financial institutions worth over $35 billion. Trevor has an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and a B.S. from the School of Business at George Mason University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (Virginia – Inactive), CFA Charterholder and a Board member at the CFA Society of Washington D.C He also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees and chair of the Investment Committee for the George Mason University Foundation, Inc. and is an active member of the Economic Club of Washington D.C.
