If You Give the World an Innovation
by C. Engdahl
If you give the world an innovation,
Early Adopters will embrace the future, and ask for some tweaks and enhancements.
So you'll make a few adjustments in hopes of Crossing the Chasm.
Once the crossing is made, in an effort to increase sales, Marketing will ask for more refinements.
So you'll make additional adjustments to woo more customers.
As your offering becomes more appealing, Tribes will give it some thrust.
At some point you'll face the Innovator's Dilemma, and you'll hold a series of internal strategy meetings.
As you Search for Excellence, Mavens and Connectors will take to their social networks.
They'll tell two friends about your innovation, and they'll tell two friends, and so on, and so on, and so on.
Your Idea will spread like a Virus.
Mainstream publications will hail your offering as a great achievement, and everyone will buy it.
Imitators will follow and the uniqueness of your offering will dissipate.
As you milk your Purple cash Cow, Early Adopters will thrust aside the past.
And as they do, chances are'
They'll want another innovation
