Mike McLaughlin is a Board Member of Yolo YIMBY and a housing policy professional focused on making accessory dwelling units and infill housing easier to build. As an ADU Policy Specialist in California HCD’s Housing Accountability Unit, he analyzed ordinances and enforcement matters, contributed to the ADU Handbook and policy guidance, advised stakeholders, and delivered trainings across California.
His ADU advocacy began before state service. Mike co-founded Our Backyard Homes, a nonprofit promoting ADUs, movable tiny homes, and reforms including AB 68 and SB 13. Through Yolo YIMBY and other organizations, he continues to advance abundant, affordable, climate-aligned housing.
From 2021 to 2024, Mike served on the Woodland Planning Commission, supporting infill, missing-middle housing, and parking reform. He is a J.D. candidate at Santa Clara Law and holds a Master of City Planning and bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley. His background spans homelessness programs, urban science research, media production, and public-interest storytelling.
