John DayCGO & General Counsel at Archway CapitalSpeaker
Profile
John Day is the Chief Growth Officer and General Counsel of Archway Capital. John’s primary responsibility at Archway is to grow the company’s loan origination businesses, along with overseeing the company’s day-to-day management. John joined Archway in 2024 with a mandate to build upon the strong foundation of commercial real estate lending that has long been established at Archway, which includes programmatically expanding Archway’s residential lending programs, as well as diversifying Archway’s sources of equity and debt capital as it continues to scale.
Prior to Archway, John was the CEO of George Smith Partners, a national CRE finance advisory firm placing over $2 billion of debt and equity on an annual basis. Prior to George Smith Partners, John oversaw all Legal, Credit, and Risk functions at Genesis Capital under Oaktree Capital’s ownership. Upon a successful M&A exit to Goldman Sachs and New Residential (Rithm) Capital, he then oversaw and led the Business Development, Sales, and Growth functions under the new ownership.
During his seven years (2015-2022) at Genesis Capital, the firm grew to one of the nation’s largest private residential business purpose lenders. John oversaw virtually all aspects of the loan origination business, which ultimately resulted in the origination of over 10,000 loans and $7.5 billion of volume during his tenure without any net principal losses across the portfolio. John was fundamental in scaling Genesis to what it is a today, a $3 billion dollar originator on an annual basis, with a successful M&A exit to Goldman Sachs and New Residential (Rithm) Capital.
John began his career at Munger Tolles & Olson as an attorney advising clients on complex commercial real estate debt and equity finance transactions.
John received his Juris Doctor degree from UC Berkeley School of Law, and his Ph.D., MBA, and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Southern California.
