James P. Cain’s career has spanned the fields of law, business, professional sports and international diplomacy. From 2005 until 2009 he served as U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark. Prior to his diplomatic service he served as a partner in the international Law Firm of Kilpatrick Townsend, and President of the NHL Carolina Hurricanes during the team’s first run to the Stanley Cup Finals. Upon leaving the official diplomatic world, Ambassador Cain began working with corporate clients to expand, and protect, their operations in the surging markets of Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East and to attract foreign investment into America.

Ambassador Cain has served in leadership positions for numerous civic and non-profit institutions including, for the past decade, on the Board of Alexandria Real Estate Equities (NYSE: ARE), the leading owner, operator, and developer of collaborative Megacampus ecosystems for life science companies in the nation’s top innovation clusters. He met Dr. Farid Bennis, Founder of Biolife, a decade and a half ago, working to bring more life-saving therapeutics to the African continent. He also serves on the Boards and Advisory Councils of The National WWI Memorial Commission, the Global Leadership Council, the Council of American Ambassadors, and the 2029 World University Games. Ambassador Cain was named "Business Leader of the Year" by Business Leader Magazine, received the John Ross Leadership Award from the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, and received the National Outstanding Community Service Award from the American Diabetes Association.
